📋 Eligible Entities - For-profit businesses across all sectors (manufacturing, technology, services, etc.) - Not-for-profit organizations and research institutions - Social enterprises and cooperatives - Government agencies and educational institutions (in some cases) - Minimum requirement: Must have the capacity to provide meaningful STEM work experience - Exclusions: Businesses primarily engaged in political or religious activities; organizations with serious compliance violations ### 💰 Funding Details - Subsidy rate: Up to 80% of intern salary - Maximum grant: $25,000 per internship - Duration: 6 to 12 months of funding - Repayability: Non-repayable grant (funds do not need to be returned) - Matching contribution: Employer covers minimum 20% of intern salary costs - Payment structure: Typically reimbursed upon submission of documentation and proof of eligible expenses - Funding frequency: Annual application windows (timing varies by program year) ### 🛠️ Approved Expenses - Direct salary costs for the intern (wages/hourly compensation) - Employer benefits (health insurance, CPP contributions, if applicable) - Training and professional development directly related to the internship role - Workplace safety and onboarding materials specific to the position - Tools, software licenses, or equipment provided to the intern for job performance - Supervisor time for mentoring and oversight (limited allocation) ### ⚠️ Conditions & Milestones - Intern qualifications: Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; typically recent graduate or student in STEM field - Job requirements: Position must be genuine, full-time or substantial part-time role in eligible STEM discipline - Employer contribution: Mandatory 20% cost-share of total salary during internship period - Employment compliance: Employer must follow all federal and provincial employment standards and wage laws - Reporting obligations: Submit proof of hire, payroll records, and intern work completion documentation - Timeline: Applications reviewed on rolling or fixed deadline basis; internship must commence within specified timeframe
