Women Entrepreneur Funding in Canada: 2026 Guide
Women entrepreneurs in Canada can meet more than one public funder. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada runs a federal strategy. Regional women’s enterprise organizations deliver their own loans and advice. General business lenders, including the Business Development Bank of Canada, are a third path. They do not share one application. This guide names programs checked on official sites on 19 October 2026 and points to the page where you actually apply.
Dollar amounts, interest rates, loan limits, revenue caps and deadlines change. They are not repeated here. Open the linked official page before you budget or file.
How funding for women entrepreneurs differs
A federal strategy, a regional women’s enterprise organization and a general business loan are different files. Approval from one does not approve the others. A stream written for not-for-profit organizations is not an application for an individual business. Read who the official page says the program is for before you prepare documents.
Names also change. The loan program described below is the Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Use that name when you search. The strategy page, the loan page and each delivery organization’s site are the places that set the current rules.
Where to look in the directory
SubsidyFinder is a directory, not an application form. There is no separate women-only grants page. Search programs matching “women”, and see government grants for small business. The ecosystem fund described below is for organizations, so government grants for nonprofits is a different list. For the map of provinces and territories, see provinces and territories.
Provincial small-business programs that are not limited to women are a separate subject. See Ontario small business grants and loans and Quebec business grants and subsidies.
Federal Women Entrepreneurship Strategy
The Women Entrepreneurship Strategy (WES) is run by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. It was renewed in an announcement in June 2026. Figures from that announcement are not copied here. Read the strategy page and the news release for the current description.
Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund
The Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund is the loan stream for women entrepreneurs. Organizations selected by the Government of Canada deliver it. The federal page lists those organizations and asks you to apply on their sites, not on SubsidyFinder. Who can apply, and on what terms, is on that page and on the delivery organization’s own site.
The list can differ by province and territory, and it can change. Open the loan-fund page and follow the organization it names for where you live. Do not assume a regional women’s organization is the one named on the federal list.
WES Ecosystem Fund
The WES Ecosystem Fund supports not-for-profit organizations and other organizations that serve women entrepreneurs. It is not a fund an entrepreneur applies to directly. If you run an organization, read that page for who may apply. If you are the entrepreneur, use the loan fund or a regional organization instead.
Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub
The Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (WEKH) is research and knowledge. Toronto Metropolitan University leads it. It is not a lender and it does not take a loan application. The hub’s own site is wekh.ca. Use it to read research. Use a lender’s page if you need financing.
WEOC National Loan Program
Women’s Enterprise Organizations of Canada (WEOC) is a national not-for-profit network. It runs the WEOC National Loan Program, delivered through regional partner organizations. The program is funded by the Government of Canada through the federal Women Entrepreneurship Strategy.
Residents of Québec, New Brunswick, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon are not served by a WEOC loan partner, according to weoc.ca. Check that page for your region before you prepare an application. This guide does not restate how much the program has financed.
Regional organizations
The organizations below are named on the WEOC loan-partner page, except EVOL, which is a Québec lender outside that partner list. Services differ. Confirm on the organization’s site, and confirm on weoc.ca that a WEOC partner actually serves your region.
Women’s Enterprise Centre of BC
The Women’s Enterprise Centre of BC (WeBC) offers business loans, one-to-one advising, skills training and mentoring in British Columbia. It is funded by PacifiCan (Pacific Economic Development Canada) and is the British Columbia partner of the WEOC national program. Start at we-bc.ca. PacifiCan describes that support on its page for WeBC.
Alberta Women Entrepreneurs
Alberta Women Entrepreneurs offers loans, coaching and programs, webinars, membership and events for women in Alberta. It has a program for Indigenous women. Francophone clients are referred to Parallèle Alberta. Read the current offer on awebusiness.com. Do not treat a referral as an approval.
Other WEOC loan partners
The same WEOC partner page also names WESK (Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan), the Manitoba Women’s Enterprise Centre, NLOWE (Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs), the Centre for Women in Business (Nova Scotia), the PEI Business Women’s Association, and PARO (northern Ontario). Each site describes that organization’s own services. PARO’s place on the list is not a statement that every part of a province is covered. Check weoc.ca for your region.
Quebec: EVOL
Québec is not served by a WEOC loan partner. EVOL is a women-focused lender worth checking if you are in Québec. Confirm on evol.ca whether your project fits. EVOL is not a WEOC loan partner.
Other business financing
The Business Development Bank of Canada provides business financing across Canada. It is not a women-only program. The Canada Small Business Financing Program is a loan you request from a financial institution under federal rules. Neither one replaces the Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund. Read each official page for who it is for.
How to prepare an application
Start with your region. Use the WEOC partner list and the Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund page to see who delivers support where you live. Ask that organization which documents it wants. A short description of the business and of the project is commonly useful. The official page names the real list.
Apply on the official site. How SubsidyFinder works and the FAQ explain that this site is an independent directory. If a listing and the official page disagree, use the official page.
FAQ
- What is the Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund?
- It is the federal loan stream for women entrepreneurs under the Women Entrepreneurship Strategy, run by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. Organizations selected by the Government of Canada deliver it. It is not a cheque you request from SubsidyFinder. Terms and who may apply are on the official loan-fund page.
- Does every province have a WEOC loan partner?
- No. WEOC’s own partner page says residents of Québec, New Brunswick, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon are not served by a WEOC loan partner. Other regions are served through the partners named on weoc.ca. Check that page for your region. Do not assume a neighbouring organization can file the application for you.
- Can my business apply to the WES Ecosystem Fund?
- The WES Ecosystem Fund is for not-for-profit organizations and other organizations, not for an entrepreneur applying directly. If you own the business, look at the Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund or a regional women’s enterprise organization. If you run an organization that serves women entrepreneurs, read the ecosystem-fund page.
- Is the Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub a lender?
- No. The Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub is a research and knowledge network led by Toronto Metropolitan University. It does not lend. Financing, if you need it, comes from a delivery organization, a regional women’s enterprise organization, or a general business lender such as the Business Development Bank of Canada.
- Where do I apply?
- On the official site of the organization that delivers the program, not on SubsidyFinder. For the federal loan fund, start at the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada page and follow the delivery organization it names. For a WEOC loan, start at weoc.ca and the partner for your region. Confirm eligibility on that page before you file.

Always confirm eligibility, status and terms on the official program page. SubsidyFinder does not take applications.
