Northern Ontario Development Program — Young Trainees — Non-Profit Organization ### 📋 Eligible Entities - Non-profit organizations registered and operating in Northern Ontario - Organizations must be legally established and in good standing - Must be able to demonstrate capacity to hire and supervise a young trainee - Priority given to organizations serving underrepresented communities or addressing regional economic development priorities ### 💰 Funding Details - Maximum Annual Grant: $35,000 CAD per year - Cost Coverage: Up to 90% of eligible payroll expenses - Program Duration: Up to 18 months per trainee placement - Repayability: Grant (non-repayable; not a loan) - Matching Requirement: Organization responsible for minimum 10% of eligible costs - Multiple Trainees: Organizations may be able to support multiple placements (subject to program limits) ### 🛠️ Approved Expenses - Trainee wages and salaries (primary eligible cost) - Employment-related benefits (EI, CPP, workers' compensation) - Supervision and mentoring time (proportional allocation) - Training materials and resources directly supporting the trainee's role - Professional development related to the trainee position - Basic equipment/tools essential for job performance (if part of trainee development) ### ⚠️ Conditions & Milestones - Trainee Definition: Recent graduate (typically within 2 years of graduation) or young person entering the workforce - Hiring Timeline: Trainee must be hired within specified timeframe after grant approval - Employment Status: Position must be new; cannot replace existing staff - Reporting Requirements: Regular progress reports and documentation of trainee activities and outcomes - Duration Compliance: Trainee must remain employed for the agreed placement period (up to 18 months) - Record Keeping: Maintain payroll records, timesheets, and training documentation for audit purposes - Regional Focus: Organization must serve or operate in designated Northern Ontario regions - Wage Compliance: Wages must meet or exceed provincial minimum wage standards
